About a girl who I met at summer camp. Later the sunfish was cooked,
they got caught, and we were banned from those woods.
I wrote this one for Christine and Amelia in
Stephen Berg's poetry
course. I don't know who the people are in the poem — it's not me
— but I do know that it's set at Rock Spring Park in New Jersey.
This was a hard poem to write.
Peter Stambler helped me smoothen it
out. Stephen Berg saw its first draft in my portfolio and told me I should
work on it, it was worth it. “Did you have any anal sex in middle school?”
he asked me. I said I had not. He grunted. “You weren’t missing much.”
